When the Bell Calls Home

A bell can turn many separate arrivals into one gathering. Below the tower, the rabbits look up while a few of their companions work the ropes, filling the evening with a sound that draws attention toward the little church. The scene’s warmth comes from the sense that the call is meant for all of them.

“O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker.”
Psalm 95:6 (KJV)

Psalm 95 begins with singing and thanksgiving, then invites its hearers to bow before the God who made and cares for them. The psalm later calls for attentive, responsive hearts. Worship includes both gladness and a willingness to listen.

The bell’s invitation gives that movement a familiar shape. We are called out of our separate routines to acknowledge something beyond our own concerns. Coming together can help us remember our dependence on God and our responsibilities toward one another.

The most lasting response happens in what we carry away: patience with a difficult person, humility about our own limitations, or renewed willingness to serve. May we hear the invitation to worship with open hearts, and let the time we share deepen the care we bring into the rest of our lives.
