Dew still clings to broad green leaves as a russet rabbit peeks out from a sunflower patch. Behind it, golden blooms face the rising sun over distant hills, and a few birds fly across the sky. This morning reading packs three short instructions into one verse, a simple pattern for whatever today might bring.
Whatever today brings, hold onto hope, stay patient, and keep praying. 🐰☀️🙏
“Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer.”
— Romans 12:12
Romans 12 marks a turning point in Paul’s letter. After explaining the gospel for eleven chapters, he describes how it shapes daily life. Here he groups three habits together: rejoicing in hope, staying patient in trouble, and continuing faithfully in prayer. Each one helps the others. Hope fuels patience, and prayer keeps hope alive.
Sunflowers are a picture of this verse. They turn toward the light, wait through long days, and grow steadily without hurry. We may not know what this day holds, but we can face it the same way: looking toward hope, enduring what is hard with patience, and staying in conversation with God from morning until evening.
