On a cozy window seat piled with floral cushions and a soft knitted blanket, a small dark rabbit in a pink scarf looks out at the garden. This Afternoon Bunny Observation turns a gentle eye on people. It notices how we can spend a whole day worrying about something that never actually happens, and wonders why an imagined problem can feel more real than the day in front of us.
Sometimes the mind can make a possibility feel heavier than what is actually happening.
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”
Philippians 4:6 (KJV)
Paul’s answer to worry is prayer. Instead of letting anxious thoughts run in circles, he tells us to bring every concern to God, with thanksgiving. Thankfulness matters here because it pulls our attention back to what is real: what God has already done and what is actually in front of us today.
Worry is very good at telling stories about the future. Most of them never come true, yet they can steal the peace of the present. The little rabbit at the window seems content just to watch the garden as it is. That is a good practice for us too. Notice today, pray about tomorrow, and leave the rest with God.
