    The Jester’s Bubble Trouble

Our court jester is back in another colored-pencil cartoon, this time trying to entertain his harlequin rabbit with a wand of bubbles. All goes well until he blows one enormous bubble that swallows him whole and lifts him gently into the air. As he floats along helplessly, his clever bunny knows exactly what to do, and with one well-timed hop, the bubble pops and the jester lands on the ground with a bump.

The jester meant to put on a show, and in a way he did, though not the one he planned. His little rabbit, calm the whole time, turns out to be the real hero of the story.

Sometimes our plans float off in directions we never expected. It is a gift to have someone nearby who can bring us back down to earth, gently and with a smile. May you have a friend like that today, and may you be that kind of friend to someone else.

    The Jester’s Living Painting

In this colored-pencil cartoon, a cheerful court jester in bright green and red stands at his easel, painting a harlequin rabbit with a few bold brushstrokes. He steps back to admire his work, and then the painted bunny decides it has had enough of the canvas. It hops straight out of the frame and onto the floor, leaving the jester staring at an empty canvas in complete surprise.

It is a playful little story about a trick that turns on the trickster. The jester is used to making others gasp, yet this time the surprise is all his. His face says everything: delight and disbelief at once.

There is a quiet joy in watching something we made take on a life of its own. Creativity is one of the good gifts God shares with us, and sometimes what we create surprises even us. May your day hold a little wonder, and maybe a small happy surprise or two.
