A Saint Made of Light

The beauty of the window becomes clear as its scattered colors find their places. Piece by piece, the glass gathers into a rabbit’s form, and sunlight carries its reds, blues, and golds onto the chapel floor. What begins as fragments becomes something that brightens the space around it.

“For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.”
Psalm 36:9 (KJV)

Psalm 36 celebrates God’s steadfast love as a source of refuge, abundance, and life. Its images move from sheltering wings to a fountain and then to light. Together, they describe a dependence that is sustaining: life and understanding come from the God in whose care the psalmist trusts.

The stained glass gives that dependence a visible form. Its colors have their own beauty, but sunlight allows them to reach beyond the window. In a similar way, the kindness and wisdom we receive can become part of what we offer others.

We may recognize the influence of someone who taught us patience, helped us through uncertainty, or made faith seem generous and welcoming. Their care continues when we practice it ourselves. May the light we have received find expression in our words and actions, making the space around us a little more welcoming.
