A hillside full of lifted ears turns the sunrise into an occasion. Gathered in quiet rows, the rabbits face the brightening horizon together, giving the morning the feeling of a welcome long prepared. The scale is striking, but the tenderness comes from all those small lives sharing one view.
“From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD’S name is to be praised.”
Psalm 113:3 (KJV)
Psalm 113 opens with a call to praise God’s name. The rising and setting sun give that praise a sweeping reach, and the psalm goes on to describe God attending to the poor and those brought low. Its vision holds grandeur and personal care together.
That combination finds a gentle echo on the hillside. The sunrise stretches beyond the gathering, yet its light reaches each rabbit within it. A shared act of gratitude can similarly bring us into something larger while leaving room for each person’s particular life and needs.
We may begin the day in different circumstances, with different concerns, and still find a reason to give thanks together. Praise can also direct our attention toward those who need the care this psalm celebrates. May the breadth of the morning enlarge our gratitude and the generosity with which we meet one another.
