Where the River Says Amen

Morning mist rises from a quiet river as golden sunlight breaks through the trees. On a mossy log along the bank, a fluffy russet rabbit sits facing the day. The verse for this morning ranks among the most hopeful passages in Scripture, about mercies that are made new every single morning.

“It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not: they are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”
— Lamentations 3:22–23

Lamentations is a book of grief, written after Jerusalem was destroyed. Most of it mourns loss and devastation. Yet in the middle of the darkest chapter, the writer stops and remembers something that gives him hope: God’s mercies have not run out. They are new every morning, and His faithfulness is great.

This hope does not ignore pain. It holds on to God in spite of it. Every sunrise can be a reminder that yesterday’s failures do not have the last word. Like the river that keeps flowing past the bank, God’s compassion keeps coming. We can begin today with a clean slate, resting in His faithfulness.
