A place built for delight can feel especially lonely once everyone has gone home. Then the dark Ferris wheel lights up above the waiting rabbits, and the puddles catch its glow. When two more rabbits arrive, the brightness becomes something shared, turning an empty midway into a small gathering.
“Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.”
Psalm 112:4 (KJV)
Psalm 112 describes a life shaped by reverence for God, generosity, and justice. Its picture of light rising in darkness belongs to that larger portrait of faithfulness. The psalm also speaks of steadiness in the face of troubling news and of giving to those in need.
The illuminated wheel gives us an image of hope appearing within an unfinished difficulty. The rain continues and the ground remains muddy, yet the scene has gained warmth and company. We often experience encouragement in similarly partial but meaningful ways.
A helpful conversation may leave the larger problem unresolved while making it easier to face. An act of generosity can bring relief precisely where it is needed. We can receive such light with gratitude and consider how to offer it ourselves. May our compassion become a source of encouragement for someone whose day has felt empty or dark.
