Love Has Long Ears

The rabbits differ in size and color, and the people holding them span generations, yet the same tenderness appears again and again. A child cradles a small companion; an older man holds a large rabbit close among the palms. Each embrace makes affection visible in a way that needs very little explanation.

“The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.”
Psalm 92:12 (KJV)

Psalm 92 compares the righteous to strong, flourishing trees. The following verses describe them planted in the house of the Lord and still bearing fruit in old age. This is a picture of enduring faithfulness, with purpose and growth continuing across the years.

Beside these varied portraits of care, the verse invites us to think about what patient devotion produces. Affection matures through attention and responsibility: learning a creature’s needs, noticing changes, and being dependable after the novelty has passed. Much of that work happens outside the moments anyone photographs.

The same steadiness nourishes our human relationships. We grow together through the care we continue to give, especially when it requires patience. May the tenderness shown here remind us to cultivate love over time, honoring the quiet faithfulness through which living things are helped to flourish.
