Where faith and wonder gather.

A Time to Dance

Out in an open green pasture edged by a wooden fence, a group of wild-looking brown rabbits break into a burst of play. They leap straight up, zigzag past one another, and chase across the grass, and one even flops over in a happy tumble. Nobody is in charge and nothing needs doing. It is simply a few friends enjoying room to run.

“A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance.”
Ecclesiastes 3:4 (KJV)

Ecclesiastes 3 is a poem about seasons, and it is honest that life holds sorrow as well as joy. The Teacher does not rank one above the other. Both belong to the rhythm God has woven into time. Grief has its place, but so does laughter, and so does dancing when the moment comes.

Some of us find it easier to carry worry than to let ourselves enjoy a good day. These rabbits are a gentle nudge to receive joy when it arrives instead of holding it at arm’s length. A walk with a friend, a shared laugh, or a little room to move can all be gifts. When the season for dancing comes, it is all right to dance.
