Borrowed Colors

Colorful light from stained-glass windows reflecting across a polished church floor.

“For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.”

Psalm 18:28 (KJV)

Candles do not light themselves. David says it plainly: You will light my candle, and You will enlighten my darkness. There is humility in that. We are not the source of our own light, and we do not have to manufacture our own hope. Stained glass offers a beautiful illustration, colors that exist only because sunlight passes through. In the same way, whatever brightness we carry is borrowed from God. That is good news on dim days. When your own resources feel exhausted, the light does not depend on you. He is still lighting candles, still turning darkness into color.
