Qujing
A small local breed from Yunnan, China, also known as the Yunnan Flower Rabbit.

Origin
The Qujing rabbit, known in China as the Yunnan Flower Rabbit, is a small local breed kept for meat and fur. It was mainly raised in Qujing in eastern Yunnan Province, in counties such as Luliang, Huize, Fuyuan, Luoping, Malong and Shizong, and was also kept in Chuxiong, Pu’er and Dali. The China Animal Agriculture Association reports that it has nearly disappeared from its original area and that purebred stock is close to extinction.
Typical Adult Size
Small. Measurements published in 1987 put adults at about 1.8 to 2.4 kg (4 to 5¼ pounds).
Coat Type
Dense, soft fur.
Colors
Many colors, mostly white, but also gray, black, black-and-white and agouti.
Temperament
We found no reliable description of its temperament. Chinese records describe it as hardy and adaptable.
Grooming and Care
Basic rabbit care: plenty of hay, fresh water, a dry, sheltered enclosure and daily exercise.
Distinctive Features
A small, inverted-triangle head with a pointed muzzle and no dewlap, short upright ears (about 8 cm long at eight months) and a short loin.
What Makes It Notable
It is one of China’s local genetic resources, and geneticists have studied it alongside other Chinese breeds to understand their ancestry.
