A gathering can be full of company and still feel wonderfully quiet. Across the dark meadow, the rabbits face the stars together, their lifted ears making a small foreground to the immense sky. The scene holds the pleasure of sharing something none of them could take in alone.
“He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names.”
Psalm 147:4 (KJV)
Psalm 147 places this statement of God’s vast knowledge close to words about gathering the outcast and healing the brokenhearted. The same psalm that looks toward the stars attends to wounded lives. Its praise holds immense power and particular care within one vision of God.
That connection gives the meadow’s scale its tenderness. Smallness need not mean insignificance. When our concerns seem minor beside everything happening in the world, this psalm gives us language for trusting that care can still reach the individual.
It also encourages us to notice particular people within the crowds around us. Remembering a name, asking how someone is doing, and listening to the answer are modest ways to make care personal. May the wide sky deepen our wonder while keeping our attention gentle toward the lives close enough for us to know.
