Someone Rang the Summer

A familiar sound can become delightful again when we notice someone else listening. Beneath the porch chimes, the rabbit rises on his hind legs with his ears lifted, giving the music in the air his full attention. Surrounded by summer flowers, he makes a passing breeze seem like an occasion.

“Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.”
Psalm 150:6 (KJV)

The final psalm gathers the sounds of instruments and dancing into a great call to praise. Its last verse widens that invitation to everything that breathes. The ending feels expansive: life itself is a reason to acknowledge the God who gives it.

The chimes and the listening rabbit offer a playful accompaniment to those words. They draw our attention to a world alive with sound, movement, and small pleasures. For us, noticing these things can become the beginning of gratitude.

Praise may take the form of a hymn or spoken prayer, but it can also begin with the simple recognition that something is good. The breeze moves, the chimes sound, and we pause long enough to be thankful. May the ordinary sounds around us awaken a little more attention, and may that attention find its way into praise.
