Someone Rang the Summer

A wooden chair on a sunny porch with hanging wind chimes and blue hydrangeas.

“Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.”

Psalm 150:6 (KJV)

The last verse of the Psalms is a wide-open invitation: let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Not just the musicians or the especially devout, but everything that breathes. Birds, children, the elderly, the weary, the joyful. If you are breathing, you are invited. Summer afternoons have their own kind of praise: wind chimes moving in the breeze, flowers in full color, the hum of insects in the grass. Creation seems to know how to praise without trying. We can join in simply by noticing and saying thank you. Praise ye the LORD.
