The Immaculate Hat Trick

The white face appearing above the hat’s brim is the moment that makes all the golden sparkle feel personal. In the moonlit forest, the rabbit emerges into the glow and takes a quiet look around, as though this extraordinary entrance requires very little explanation. The scene offers the pleasure of a surprise allowed to unfold at its own pace.

“Stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.”
Job 37:14 (KJV, excerpt)

These words come from Elihu’s speech to Job, where he calls attention to the wonders of weather and the limits of human understanding. His invitation to pause belongs to that contemplation of the natural world. The hat’s imagined magic provides a playful occasion to reflect on the act of wonder.

We can be so intent on explaining, finishing, or moving forward that we leave little time simply to look. A deliberate pause may help us notice the complexity of a tree, the changing moon, or the many details within a familiar landscape.

Wonder need not end when the spectacle does. It can become a habit of attentive curiosity toward the world around us. May we make room to be surprised, and let that openness deepen our gratitude for what we have not yet fully understood.
