Riff waits beside an iron lamppost as the evening glow settles over the sidewalk, red scarf on and autumn leaves gathered at his feet. Tonight’s Evening Bunny Challenge is quiet but not easy. Whenever a choice comes up, let someone else have the better option, whether that means the comfier chair, the larger slice, or the easier job, and then let it go without drawing attention to it.
“Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;”
Romans 12:10 (KJV)
In Romans 12 Paul describes what love looks like when it is real rather than put on. Preferring one another in honour means putting others first and gladly letting them have the place of respect. It is the opposite of keeping score. Jesus modeled it when He told His followers that the greatest among them should be like the one who serves.
The challenge works best unnoticed. Giving up the better thing and then announcing it turns kindness into a performance. Doing it quietly lets the gift stay a gift. It may be small, a chair or a slice of cake, but small acts of honour add up, and over time they train the heart to look outward.
