Make the Call

Riff stands at the base of a tall iron lamppost as the evening glow turns the sidewalk to amber, red scarf on and fallen leaves scattered around his paws. His challenge for tonight is refreshingly simple. Pick someone you usually only text, skip the typing, and give them a phone call so they can actually hear your voice.

“A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.”
Proverbs 25:11 (KJV)

Proverbs treasures words that arrive at the right time and in the right way. The image is of something precious set in a beautiful frame. A message can carry the same words as a call, but the voice adds warmth, laughter, and the pauses that show we are really listening. Sometimes how a word is spoken matters as much as what it says.

Texting is quick and useful, yet it can quietly turn friendships into a stream of short updates. One unplanned phone call can feel like a gift to the person on the other end. It does not need a reason or a long time. Tonight, scroll to a familiar name, press call, and let them hear that you were thinking of them.
