A Stranger on the Church Steps

An arched wooden church door at the top of worn stone steps, softly lit.

“Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God.”

Romans 15:7 (KJV)

Church steps can feel steep to someone arriving for the first time. Paul’s instruction is short and generous: receive one another, the same way Christ received you. None of us walked through the door already put together. We were welcomed while still unsure, still learning, still carrying more than we let on. That memory should shape how we greet the next stranger on the steps. A warm hello, a saved seat, a name remembered the following week: these small welcomes reflect a much larger one. Every open door in a church is meant to say what Christ said first. Come in. You belong here.
