Autumn Signs Its Name

“He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.”
Ecclesiastes 3:11 (KJV)
Ecclesiastes is honest about how much of life we cannot figure out. And yet, right in the middle of that honesty, it says God has made everything beautiful in its time and set eternity in our hearts. That restlessness you feel, the sense that there must be more, is not a flaw. It is a clue. We cannot see the whole work from beginning to end, but we can see its beauty in pieces: a creek in October, leaves turning in their season, a moment that feels like a glimpse of forever. Beauty arrives on God’s schedule, and it is always worth the wait.
