Early Mercy

Sunrise light spilling over a meadow of clover and pink wildflowers.

“O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.”

Psalm 90:14 (KJV)

Psalm 90 is a prayer of Moses, aware of how short life is. Yet instead of despair, he asks for mercy early, at the start, so that the rest of life can be filled with joy. There is wisdom in seeking God’s kindness first thing. A day that begins by receiving mercy tends to be a day that extends it. The meadow at dawn, glowing and fresh, captures that hopeful beginning. Before the to-do list takes over, there is a moment to be satisfied with His mercy. Start there, and gladness has room to follow you through all your days.
