Zephaniah offers one of Scripture’s most surprising images: God rejoicing over His people with singing. Not tolerating them, not merely watching them, but delighting in them. He is mighty and in the midst, close at hand, powerful enough to save, and glad to do it. Many of us struggle to believe that God feels joy when He thinks of us. This verse insists that He does. Evening, when the day’s mistakes come back to mind, is a good time to remember it. The stars over the lake are not the only thing shining tonight. You are loved with gladness.
