Softly Comes the Morning

A meadow of white and purple wildflowers glowing beneath a soft sunrise sky.

“For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:”

Ephesians 5:8 (KJV)

Paul does not soften the before and after. You were once darkness, he says, not merely in the dark, but now you are light in the Lord. Something fundamental has changed. The instruction that follows is natural: walk as children of light. It is less a demand than an invitation to live like who we already are. Morning arrives gently over a meadow, light reaching one flower at a time until the whole field is bright. Growth in faith often looks like that, quiet and gradual. You belong to the light now. Let today be one more step in it.
