These words of Jesus are recorded not in the Gospels but in Acts, quoted by Paul to the elders of Ephesus: it is more blessed to give than to receive. Most of us know it is true, even if we forget it often. Giving breaks the grip that possessions and worries have on us. It connects us to others and reminds us that what we have was given first. Fresh bread is meant to be shared, broken at a table full of people. Find a way to give something today, time or help or simply attention. The blessing will come back around.
